Another Homicide in Condo in South Fulton

Camelot Condominiums, located off Old National Highway, has long had a troubled history. Violence is almost an everyday occurrence in this neighborhood, and a recent homicide is proof of that.

According to South Fulton Police, a woman had shot and killed a man in what seemed to be a domestic violence issue. Preliminary investigations show that the shooting was an act of self-defense. However, ongoing investigations remain.

Police initially detained the woman as a person of interest. They have since released her from custody.

Riddled With Housing Concerns

This is not the first time Camelot Condominiums made headlines.

Several murders and 13 assaults have been reported at the condo complex in just one year. Residents also complained about terrible living conditions, a lack of electricity, and countless safety hazards.

South Fulton Mayor Khalid Kamau previously moved into the complex when he first took office last year. Kamau wanted to address the crime in the neighborhood and see things first-hand before deciding whether or not to tear it down.

Apart from crime, Camelot Condominiums has also gone through fires. Despite all of these, some residents don’t want to see their homes demolished. To many, it is the only place they can live.

“People will lose out because there are people out here who have affordable housing and who are trying to live out here, be sustainable, and live life like they should,” resident Roderick Drummond previously told local news.

Kamau pointed out that most of the residents at Camelot are renters. He is hopeful of saving at least half of the buildings, which are in dire need of repairs and improvements.
