This depends on how your HOA defines “forum.” If the agenda clearly stated the format upfront, they might be within their rights. That said, it’s not the best way to foster trust and transparency.

In my experience, communication is key. I’d suggest reaching out to those who are late, either through a letter or an informal conversation. Sometimes it’s a matter of personal circumstances, and showing empathy can lead to a solution without it becoming a bigger issue. But I agree with earlh0808, having a system of late fees in place can motivate people to pay on time!

I’d look into a lawyer then, in that case.

I totally get where you’re coming from. I left my HOA a few years ago, and it’s been such a relief. First, check your HOA bylaws – they usually outline the process for leaving. Often, it involves a vote among members. Make sure you understand any financial obligations or penalties. Communicate your concerns with neighbors; you might find others who feel the same. Good luck!

Most definitely. But if you have a good and honest manager, it shouldn’t be a problem.

While I understand your concerns, it’s completely normal for the board to delegate this type of thing to a professional. Vendor payments can be very exhausting to keep up with, especially if your board consists of full-time employees. Missing a payment might cut off your services, and that’s no good for your HOA.

It really depends on the HOA. Our board only gives the management company permission to withdraw $500 at a time. That’s the limit. Anything beyond that would need approval from the board. And they’re limited to like one withdrawal a day or something like that.

$250 ain’t that bad for a move in fee if you ask me
I’ve seen many other HOA’s that charge $500 and up
I would just pay the fee if I were you

I’m not entitled. It’s a perfectly reasonable request. I just want to know if they’re going to take care of our association.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable a tall. If they have an employee with ah istory of fraud or criminal activity, I think we have a right to know. We don’t want a management company if it comes with a higher risk of financial dishonesty.

There is no industry standard per se. Your bylaws should tell you exactly how often you should conduct board meetings.

Not that I know of… but it’s probably best to just get their permission anyway

I know gates have pros and cons but you also have to consider the way your community is set up. In a previous HOA I lived in, we only had the one entrance/exit so putting a gate there gave us a big headaches. When the gate failed, we had no way of getting in and out.
