Our HOA board is proposing a special assessment to fund a new playground. The old one is functional but outdated. The assessment would be $500 per household. Is this worth it, or should we push back?

That’s a steep price if the old playground still works. Have they presented a breakdown of the costs?

If you have a lot of families in your community, it might add value to the neighborhood. But $500 sounds high—maybe they can find grants?

The board did mention grant applications, but they said it wouldn’t cover enough. They’re having a meeting next week to discuss. Should I ask for a vote?

Definitely attend the meeting and ask questions. Boards usually need member approval for large special assessments. Get all the facts first.

Playgrounds can boost property values, but only if they’re used. If your community doesn’t have many kids, it might not be worth it.
