My POA says I can’t use drought-resistant plants. They have “pre-approved” plants for our landscaping. I think it’s ridiculous and such a waste of water.
Where do you live? Some states have laws that protect your right to use drought-resistant landscaping. California is one, if I recall correctly. So if you live there, you might be able to fight your POA on this.
A quick search shows that Iowa does not have such a law. Check your declaration to verify if your POA has the authority to ban drought-resistant plants. If it’s not on there, you can contest the decision.
I suggest speaking to your HOA board about this. Explain to them the benefits of using drought-resistant plants. Perhaps they will consider amending your bylaws to allow drought-resistant plants if you’re able to change their minds.
