So it started with a couple of them just shacking up in some of the abandoned or empty town homes here… We managed to get the first few of them out but from there, the problem just seemed to get worse. Any ideas how we can keep squatters out? We don’t live in a gated HOA so there’s virtually no security to keep them out…

Do you know who ows the homes? The homeowners should really be the ones responsible for taking care of their property and making sure no one illegally squats there.

Yes we know the owners but they don’t seem to care as some of them haven’t lived or returned here in a long time and have just abandoned their homes in essence… Neighbors are concerned as squatters can drive down property values and make the neighborhood feel unsafe…

You really should coordinate with the homeowners and ask them to notify the authorities.

AFAIK, the HOA doesn’t have the power to evict squatters since the HOA doesn’t technically own the homes. Again, the owners should be notified.

Hey, if they ain’t harming nobody and the owners don’t care, I don’t see why you can’t just let the squatters live there. Seems like they can take better care of the property.
