Question:
Hello. My concern is with the mailboxes. I was checking my mailbox and slipped on some ice surrounding the mailbox, and my question is who is responsible for clearing snow and ice around the mailboxes? I had to go home and get some ice melt so no one else will injure themselves. There are senior citizens in this community. And if this happens again I will take further actions. Thank you

Answer:
Hi Steven,
It depends on who owns the mailboxes. If these are individual mailboxes located on owner property, then homeowners are responsible for them. But, if these are cluster mailboxes, then the HOA is usually responsible for them (but not always). Check your governing documents to see who bears responsibility for the maintenance of mailboxes and the surrounding area.
