Removing the Robert’s Rules Requirement in Connecticut

Question:

What steps in Connecticut must an HOA Board take to remove Remove Robert’s Rules of Order and replace them with their own rules?

– Minna

Answer:

Hi Minna,

According to the Connecticut Common Interest Ownership Act Section 47-250(c), meetings must be conducted according to the latest edition of Robert’s Rules of Order, unless:

  • The declaration, bylaws, or other law states otherwise, or
  • Two-thirds of votes allocated to unit owners present at a meeting are cast to suspend those rules

The community may amend the CC&Rs or bylaws to do away with Robert’s Rules of Order. Alternatively, the HOA may hold a meeting to vote on the matter.
