Question:
Is there a difference between a proxy and an absentee ballot?
– Karen
Answer:
Hi Karen,
Absentee ballots allow owners to vote without physically attending the meeting (for example: mail-in ballots). Proxy voting, on the other hand, involves a voter giving another owner authority to vote on their behalf. This type of voting could give the proxy full authority to cast the vote however they see fit. But a limited or directed proxy limits the proxy’s vote according to the direction of the original voter. The type of proxy your HOA uses will depend on your bylaws.
