Not Enough HOA Board Candidates

Question:

We have new elections in September, 2024. We sent a nomination application letter to 84 owners. looking to fill 5 board positions. We didn’t get any candidates, and 3 owners nominated the same person.
our nomination letter stated ” Once nominations are closed, if there are the same number or fewer qualified candidates as there are board positions to be filled. The board of directors may after voting to do so, seat the qualified candidates by acclamation without balloting”
At this point what will be the next step to continue with these elections?
We mentioned to the board that they have to remain on the board, until we have enough candidates.
can you advise us, what is the best option we have.

Answer:

Hi Arnie,

You may proceed with uncontested elections by acclamation. If your governing documents allow it, you may also open floor nominations and write-in candidates. If you still lack candidates, the current board members can remain in their position until you can hold another election, if the governing documents permit.
