Question:
I live in a developer owned community. I have a business.. am an artist.
There was a group of residents who formed a little art group before I got here.
I asked to join but was snubbed… they never looked at my product yet for three years, I kept asking to be a member.
The developers/management of the property support this group.
They provide a venue, do set up and take down of tables, provide drinks for two shows a year.
I am excluded.
I went to the developers and said it is not fair because all members should have a chance to participate. The answer.. we aren’t in the business to help you prosper.
I finally got into one show that is sponsored by the developers each year but It was from me having to fight back.
I have been in TV, I have sold at an exclusive hotel, do galleries, etc.
The bullies of the said group told the developers that my stuff was not good enough.
So, I am excluded from the art group.
Is there anything I can do about it?
I don’t want to be in a toxic group any more but I don’t like to be bullied by a couple of elitists in my community supported by developers who only care about making money.. no resident issues. We pay hefty annual dues.
Please advise.

Answer:
Hi Patricia,
Kindly speak with the HOA board members to raise your concerns. They may be able to address the issue and help with inclusion and fair treatment. It may also help to garner support from others in the community to ensure these events are more inclusive. You may also consider third-party arbitration or mediation to resolve the dispute. For further guidance, kindly consult a lawyer.
