Question:
Hello there! There is a hot debate going on in our development about rentals and potentially capping them. Have you all done any studies on the effects of too many STRs in a HOA neighborhood?
Or can you point me to any resources??
Thank you!

Answer:
Hi Cyndi,
Short-term rentals can have several effects on HOAs. They can result in more noise, traffic, vandalism, and rule violations by renters. It may also mean more liability for the association. That’s why most HOAs that allow short-term rentals still regulate them with rental caps and other rules. However, overly restrictive rules may also result in a dissatisfied community. Ultimately, the board must act in the community’s best interest.
