HOA and Sheriff Won’t Resolve Security Issue

Question:

We have some one that rings our bell & pounds on the door all hours of the night. We have a picture of the individual and gave it to our board and security. This has been going on for several weeks and the only answer we get is call the sheriff. We contacted the sheriff’s department & they said since it’s private property and we have are own security it’s not their responsibility.

Thank you,

– Don

Answer:

Hi Don,

It is best to check your HOA’s governing documents to understand your association’s responsibilities when it comes to security and safety.

Continue documenting each incident with photos, videos, and detailed notes. Follow up with your HOA and security, insisting on a formal response, and review your HOA’s governing documents to ensure they are fulfilling their responsibilities. If the situation persists, reach out to local law enforcement again, emphasizing the ongoing harassment, and consider consulting an attorney for legal advice.

Additionally, you can install security measures like cameras or motion-activated lights to deter the individual. Engaging with neighbors who may be facing similar issues can also strengthen your case.
